A directory error has occurred (80072095)

Background:

Rebuilt my HomeLab for the 13th time…..New Windows Server 2016 domain controllers, and domain for an upcoming Project that I want to replicate.

Went to add my recently created Root Certificate Authority certs into Group Policy and came across the below error, which prevented me from adding the certificates to Group Policy.

To replicate, log into the serve with the out of the box domain admin account. Navigate to Group Policy > edit the Default Domain Policy > Expand Policies > Expand Windows Settings > try to expand Security Settings.

Error:

A directory error has occurred. (80072095)

Solution:

The cause is still unknown. Potentially a bug with Windows Server 2016.

To resolve, log into the server and Group Policy with an account that has been created, and you can open the Group Policy settings.
